Overview

Halifax Health - Hospice is seeking a Medical Secretary.

Summary

The Hospice Medical Secretary performs departmental tasks to support the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) and clinical interdisciplinary group (IDG) members. Responsibilities include clerical/secretarial responsibilities, answering organizational and team phone lines and various tasks to ensure high quality patient care.

Job Qualifications

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
* Previous secretarial experience in a health care setting preferred.
* Skills in oral & written communication required.
* Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
* Ability to work well with patients, families, colleagues of varied disciplines, physicians and ancillary department personnel.
* Excellent typing skills & experience working with multiple software programs Microsoft Word & Excel etc.
* Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* General clerical duties; including making copies, coordinating mailings, typing correspondence, minutes and other documents.


* Answering large volume of calls for organization and team maintaining excellent customer service.


* Communicates, obtains pertinent information, maintaining the dignity, confidentiality and cultural sensitivity of all individuals of varying socio-economic groups.


* Maintains, updates and orders forms and medical supplies as needed.


* Data entry and collection, creating reports and gathering other needed information for Patient Care Coordinator (PCC), IDG meetings, etc.


* High standard of customer service and phone etiquette, providing thorough hand off to appropriate team members to assist and support patients, families and community.


* Provides support to PCC, IDG and other departments and teams in the organization.


* Maintain working order of all company office equipment.


* Ensuring appropriate supervisory personnel are made aware of items of concern/problems quickly.


* Maintains the cleanliness and organization of assigned work environment.
