General Summary of Job Duties The Physician Substitute (RN, LPN, EMT-P, EMT-B) is responsible for donor medical evaluations, determining donor suitability, and assessing donor adverse events. Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties * Greet and register new plasma donors into the donor management computer system * Conduct screening procedures to include taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks * Perform finger sticks to test donors for hematocrit testing and total protein testing utilizing screening equipment. Monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system * Determine donor eligibility by performing donor eligibility assessments, to include; medical history interview, physical examination, educating donor on donor testing, HIV/AIDS virus, donation risks, informed consent, confidential self-exclusion, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) testing as necessary * Provide counseling to Donors regarding unacceptable test results * Initiate and assist in donor investigations regarding Post Donation Information * Evaluate and attend to donor adverse events during the donation process * Follow all standard operating procedures for all medical emergencies, to include communication with the Center Medical Director and donor transport to emergency medical care facilities. Communicate and seek direction from Center Medical Director and Center Management as necessary * Learn and maintain thorough familiarity and compliance with all state and federal regulations, Standard Operating Procedure Manual, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and internal Company Procedures * Thorough knowledge of applicable Company and departmental policies and procedures as well as the willingness to learn and follow any policy or procedure that may be introduced in the future * Maintain an open line of communication with Management * Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during all interactions with donors, fellow employees, and vendors * Ability to accept performance feedback in a professional manner * Regular attendance and arriving on time to all scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings * Other duties as assigned Core Values (Standards of Behavior) To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following: Passion * Approach the workday with vigor and enthusiasm * Showcase positivity in actions, thoughts, and communication with colleagues, employees, and donors * Driven by the purpose of enhancing the lives of our patients through expert plasma collection Leadership * Operate with integrity by doing the right thing every time * Utilize effective communication to set expectations * Seek to understand barriers through the identification of root causes and take corrective action * Showcase open mindedness in search of the best ideas and talents Accountability * Hold themselves responsible in regard to their performance and behavior * Showcase transparency and honesty in all interactions * Possess follow-up and follow-through Service Excellence * Going above and beyond to ensure that our people receive timely and accurate service * Ensuring that all employees are equipped with the proper knowledge and training needed to meet the expectations of their jobs * Seek what is best for the company versus what is best for self Mutual Respect * Treating people with courtesy, politeness, and kindness * Showcasing receptiveness to diverse thoughts and opinions of others by fostering an environment of inclusion * Steering clear of behavior that insults, belittles, or undermines the beliefs of others Ambition * Defy the odds by creating a culture of openness, engagement, and opportunity * Remain steadfast to the purpose * Continuously set the bar high for ourselves and those that we service Competencies The competencies below identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities or other behaviors critical to success in this role: People Focus * Make people and their needs a primary focus of action; take full responsibility for fostering productive people relationships; focused on creating goodwill Communication * Listen to others and speaks in an effective manner Safety Focus * Adhere to all workplace and industry safety laws, regulations, standards, and practices Ethics & Integrity * Earn trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions Critical Thinking * Mentally assembles diverse pieces of information and grasps their significance as a coherent, meaningful whole Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent required * Minimum one (1) year work experience preferred * Actively licensed or certified in the state where performing duties: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Paramedic, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA) * Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required Requirements * Strong oral and written communication skills * Ability to read and interpret directions and instructions * Perform basic math calculations * Basic computer skills * Reasoning ability to identify, interpret and apply appropriate information Physical Requirements * Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear * Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knee * Manual dexterity to perform all phases of donor plasmapheresis * Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc * Ability to stand for extended periods of time for up to four (4) hours at a time * Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifty (50) pounds Work Environment * Typical work environment with moderate noise level * May be exposed to freezing temperatures for short periods of time * Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens Disclaimer This job description is construed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed.
