Halifax Health - Hospice -is seeking a HIM Specialist. The HIM Specialist will provide coverage for, and assistance to the HIM Department.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Prior Medical Records/H.I.M. experience preferred.
• Coding experience/certification preferred.
• Medical office experience preferred.
• Ability to work well with others, and independently.
• Proficient in general medical office equipment (fax machine, copier, scanner, etc.).
• General computer operational knowledge and skills required.
• Ability to quickly learn new computer system applications.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work independently when necessary. -
• Good verbal and written communication skills required.
• Must have good interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others.
  
  • Maintains and protects the confidentiality of all patient information in all forms -(verbal, electronic, physical).
  • Accounts for all new Admissions documentation and communicating between various departments/ areas for obtaining all completed documentation.
  • Assigns ICD9 diagnosis codes.
  • Scans and enters all medical record information into the Imaging System.
  • Distributes, tracks and posts clinical orders.
  • Responds to needs of internal teams and external entities promptly and professionally.
  • Completes internal and Continued Care Release of Information (ROI) requests.
  • Assists the HIM Manager with the completion of external ROI requests.
  • Responds to the -needs of internal teams and external parties promptly and professionally.
